February Special - Mel Becks
6th Feb 2012

Joining our series of water themed brews, and following on from aqua themed Black Dub and Semer Water is our February special, named after the beck that runs through Melbecks Moor.

A light, pale ale with a low gravity at 3.5% abv, Mel Becks is packed with dryness and tropical fruit hop flavours and aromas, with a long finish, resulting in a tantilising taste sensation, rarely found in a beer with such a low abv.

Available in cask only, get it while you can, as it will be a one off brew!

Brew Number 666 - Firkin Hell
2nd Jan 2012

To commemorate our 666th brew here at the Brewery, we decided to do something special.

As 666 is the number of the beast, it seemed only fitting to make a beast of a beer, and 'Firkin Hell' seemed a fitting name!

Brewed using 6 different malts, 6 different hops and at 6% abv, it's one of the most powerful beers we've ever made!

Initial fruity malt sweetness, is followed by a super bitter, long, hoppy, dry finish that leaves the taste lingering for what seems like forever.

To be brewed only once, 'Firkin Hell' is available at selected local outlets for a limited time only. Call the brewery for more details.

Summer Special - White Heather
4th Jul 2011

White Heather 4.1%

Now it's Summer (allegedly), it's time to release our special seasonal brew.

Brewed with the finest Optic pale malt, this pale summer ale is named after the rare, and considered lucky, white heather flower found on moorland at this time of year, due to the limited rare hop used in both bittering and aroma.

Adding a distinct fruit flavour and a huge amount of dryness, the hop is revered for it's power!

White Heather should be landing in all your favourite Real Ale houses within the next couple of weeks.

Ale, Cheese, Steam and breathtaking scenery combine for rail fundraiser
17th Jun 2011

PASSENGERS are being offered the chance to combine fine food and drink with a steam-hauled rail journey through some of the region’s most beautiful scenery as part of a hospice charity’s fundraiser.

The Taste of Wensleydale Express will set off on Friday, July 8, pulling carriages full of guests. Be they rail buffs or lovers of good beer, cheese or Dales countryside, they will all be helping to raise vital funds for Herriot Hospice Homecare, which provides care to terminally-ill patients in their own homes across Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Amanda Pearson, customer services manager with Wensleydale Railway, said: “Herriot Hospice Homecare is a splendid charity that does tremendous work. We are happy to support it in any way we can.”

Also supporting the event is cheesemaker the Wensleydale Creamery, based in Hawes, and the Wensleydale Brewery, from Bellerby, near Leyburn.

Wensleydale Brewery’s operations manager, Alex Dodds, said it already produced an exclusive Rail Ale bottled bitter for the railway. He hopes to offer a range of ales – some hand-pulled – on the special outing in July.

“We are proud to support such a good cause which is so important in our rural local area,” he added.

Rebecca Wilson, fundraiser at Herriot Hospice Homecare, said the charity wanted to combine some of the best things Wensleydale had to offer for the event.

After a long day in the field, this ale, with it's perfect balance of juicy malts and refreshing hops is just what's needed for the victory celebration! Make sure you come down and sample a pint of FoD! On sale at the club from Saturday 28th May.
